Hidden Gem #2: NiT GriT

I’m not really too sure how much of a hidden gem you can say NiT GriT is. I mean, I recently stumbled across him in one of those “oh wow hey look at this neat artist I randomly found” nights, so I’d say he qualifies, but the boy has more Soundcloud comments than possibly anyone I’ve ever seen. And for damn good reason. NiT GriT shows that dark can still be melodic, that grimey can still be amusing, and that sometimes it’s alright to just drop a fucking filthy rager of a track. By sometimes, I guess I mean everytime, as there really isn’t anything that I’ve heard from him that hasn’t caught my ear.

Now let me say, that usually I don’t sway toward the dark dubstep. Granted, that’s because I find a lot of it boring and repetitive. But instead of just rambling about how much I’m digging this dude, we’ll just let his tunes speak for themselves. Here are some forthcoming tunes from his Soundcloud:

NiT GriT has been getting mad love from the blogosphere it seems, but not enough in my opinion! With features from sites like Squitty Bubbler and Stripewaves (check these guys out for more major tunage!), this youngin’ from San Jose has much in store for him, including some upcoming releases. Stay close on the fella and follow him on Soundcloud. Until then, NiT GriT has been gracious enough to drop us a few tunes to tie us over!

NiT GriT – 12 Gauge

NiT GriT – Paralysis

NiT GriT – Park Manglement

NiT GriT – Serotonin Syndrome

NiT GriT – Special K

Go show this man some love, and cop a couple of his tunes from BandCamp! I can pretty much guarantee, you won’t be sorry!

  1. Jeremy Owens says:

Man, you are absolutely right about this guy. Rusko cant even compare with this guy. His melodies make the dark filthy sounds have substance… watch out for NiT GriT blowing minds at a city near you.

  2. John Molloy says:

@Jeremy Owens: You’re so right man, Nit has much more on Rusko in terms of pretty much everything except notoriety. Nit’s tracks are all full bodied and carry so much grime its almost a paradox to say that they’re all very well melodic as well. To add to that, the addition of glitch is what puts that extra bwomp and is why I ever since i stumbled upon him in a similar fashion, he has remained a constant on my speakers. I even saw Rusko live at Global Dance Festival in Boulder, and am seeing him again in Portland, OR sept 30th, but hands down he has nothing on the “nitty gritty” and I can’t wait til nit comes to visit.

I stumbled this, and wow. I don’t listen to much dubstep because it all sounds kind of the same, but this is really good. 12 tracks in and I’m still listening….

  13. that guy says:

nah this guy isnt that great. too slow of a build up, his counterpoint is all off, drop is unenthusiastic, and lacks suspense, no cause and effect, no call and response. he’s just a guy who figured out how to throw a couple layers together on a program and wobble the base. 3 out of 10 in my opinion
