Exclusive Interview: Stephan Jacobs

A couple of months back we gave you a taste of Stephan Jacobs. Today we have a few more along with a little glimpse into his life. Stephan has been hard at work cranking out more tunes for the world’s consumption so take a moment and check out the mini-interview and enjoy the massive remixes Stephan has generously bestowed upon us all!

How long have you been making music?

Well, The first time i ever worked on music was about 6 years ago when a friend of mine “Satchi Om” showed me the possibilities. but it was just a tease. Then i brewed on it for about a year got the software and started to learn to make my own tracks and really started hitting it hard about 5 years ago.

You seem to be staying pretty busy these days, any upcoming releases people should keep their eyes peeled for?

Well, on Nov 26th a collaboration i did with +Verb“Blind Dreams” comes out on Gruntworthy, in December me and Sugarpill made a track “Level Attack feat. Naada” and its coming out on Muti with a handful of killer remixes.

In the Spring i plan on releasing my EP named “Synthesis” and it stands strong to that name.

Also been working on a few remixes that i will post up for free Download soon as well.

What has been your most memorable performance?

Coachella on the DoLab stage.

For production do you have any favorite synths?

I like Gladiator, The Ableton operator (Thanks to Love and Light showing me some tricks on it), Massive and I also like using outboard gear as well. Such as the Korg Electribe and MicroKorg.

What gives you inspiration in your music?

Other music gives me inspiration, friends, love, whats going on in my life. I feel that all of those things combine to make music what it is for any producer.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee in the morning, then hit the music hard and its a productive day.

Long nights or early morning sessions?

Anytime is a good time, but the morning with coffee is the best for me.

Now you know a bit about the man behind the music! Let the bass-filled treats be with you!

BWOMP: Two

Year number two is in full effect. Just a little over a year ago, we dropped our first bomb on LA. Saturday is our official one year anniversary party. For our 1 year on 9/11, we wanted to do something special. This is not about sides, religions, or politics. It’s just bass therapy. We have a cavalcade of sick b2b and 2×4 sets for you coming from all corners of LA. If you’re anywhere in So Cal, make sure you come out and celebrate 1 year of bass with the BWOMP! crew. We’re inviting some heavy hitting LA talent to help us ring it in LA proper. Included are exclusives from two of the talent.

====================================================================

Dillon Francis has been making waves as a top producer/DJs in LA. Constantly straddling the line between electro and dubstep, this guy isn’t confined by cookie cutter bangers. His track “Take Me High” has been shooting up the charts and is currently at #16 on Beatport. His hit “Westside!” has been rinsed by the likes of Major Lazer and Will.I.Am, destroying huge crowds on many occassions. Signed to Plant Music last year, Dillon’s dirty, funky electro-step tracks have been getting press from grips of notable music blogs. You want to check this cat out. Do not sleep.

Nightcore – I Walk Alone (Dillon Francis Remix) (BWOMP BEATS! Exclusive)

====================================================================

A dubstep producer/DJ trio out of Los Angeles, our good friends The Dumbsteppaz are known for their hard-hitting style of west coast dubstep. They always work their dancefloors into a frenzy, and their LA fans love them for it. In addition to being great talents, they are the nicest and most humble dudes you’ll meet. Their Turnt Up EP is climbing Beatport’s dubstep charts quickly, currently at #23. They first came out and supported us for our first monthly and killed it. It’s our pleasure to bring the Dumbsteppaz back for our one year.

Now that’s NA$TY!

[ It's a pleasure to welcome our very own Richard Sweat to the blogosphere. He's a veteran of the BWOMP! crew who's recently been producing the sweaty beats and rocking the sweaty sets here in LA. Look out for him to post some serious bwomp now and then. Don't be fooled by the size of this first post... its the business!    -Ev ]

This is just one of those tunes that is sure to make the bassfaces come out in full force! NastyNasty, from San Jose CA, continues to drop heat, so head on over to his bandcamp and get it while the gettin’s good!

The those nasty cats over at Chrome Kids are at it again! This time focusing on the Welsh producers of the nasty-nasty in a recent mix they did for BBC 1Xtra and Twin B’s show, In New DJs We Trust. The mix is pretty heavy and hard-hitting, showcasing some great talent from Wales and beyond. Definitely worth plugging your iPod into the computer to snag this one!

I don’t have too much time to spend hounding blogs anymore. Between pretending to be busy and actually being busy, there’s not even too many hours in the day to spend on good’ole Bwomp here. But when I have a few extra seconds, I always love taking a whirl through Chrome Land. They seem to be pretty keen on keeping things fresh, while still promoting good talent and solid productions. Here’s a couple things I snagged lately:

Nosaj Thing – IOIO

Starkey – OK Luv (Stagga Remix Instrumental)

Led Zeppelin vs. Rusko vs. Daft Punk vs. Lil Jon (David Starfire Mashup)

Hidden Gem #2: NiT GriT

dioptase

Dioptase

I’m not really too sure how much of a hidden gem you can say NiT GriT is. I mean, I recently stumbled across him in one of those “oh wow hey look at this neat artist I randomly found” nights, so I’d say he qualifies, but the boy has more Soundcloud comments than possibly anyone I’ve ever seen. And for damn good reason. NiT GriT shows that dark can still be melodic, that grimey can still be amusing, and that sometimes it’s alright to just drop a fucking filthy rager of a track. By sometimes, I guess I mean everytime, as there really isn’t anything that I’ve heard from him that hasn’t caught my ear.

Now let me say, that usually I don’t sway toward the dark dubstep. Granted, that’s because I find a lot of it boring and repetitive. But instead of just rambling about how much I’m digging this dude, we’ll just let his tunes speak for themselves. Here are some forthcoming tunes from his Soundcloud:

NiT GriT has been getting mad love from the blogosphere it seems, but not enough in my opinion! With features from sites like Squitty Bubbler and Stripewaves (check these guys out for more major tunage!), this youngin’ from San Jose has much in store for him, including some upcoming releases. Stay close on the fella and follow him on Soundcloud. Until then, NiT GriT has been gracious enough to drop us a few tunes to tie us over!

NiT GriT – 12 Gauge

NiT GriT – Paralysis

NiT GriT – Park Manglement

NiT GriT – Serotonin Syndrome

NiT GriT – Special K

NiT GriT on BandCamp

Go show this man some love, and cop a couple of his tunes from BandCamp! I can pretty much guarantee, you won’t be sorry!
