DJ Shiftee Drops Turntable Routine for Joker’s “Slaughter House”

Two-time DMC World Champ DJ Shiftee is one talented motherfucker. Apart from having a slew of DJ awards under his belt and being a globetrotting producer and purveyor of bass music, he’s also a Harvard Math Graduate, and an instructor at NYU as well as Dubspot NYC. Thankfully, he’s taken some time out of his busy schedule to whip up a turntable routine using Joker’s “Slaughter House”. Combining Native Instruments‘ Traktor and Maschine, Shiftee takes a page from MPC era beat smithing and fuses it with some tasteful turntablism. Not to mention, he’s sure to keep you laughing throughout the entire video.

If you get a chance to see DJ Shiftee live, make sure to hop on it – he’s very fun to watch as a master of keeping you dancing and interested throughout his entire set.

DJs: make sure to keep an eye on the Dubspot Blog where you can find lots more tutorials as well as Shiftee’s custom Maschine mapping templates.

“The title track “Illusions”, featuring San Francisco MC Joe Mousepad, takes a page from UK Grime and shares some Garage energy with the more diversified “Amalgamaelstrom”. Both “Oscillating Orbs” (w/ ONE4ALL) and “Space Monkey” stylistically derive from instrumental hip hop roots, presenting engaging rhythms and shuffle. “Scooby Don’t”, a collaboration alongside A/V artist Pharo brings up the rear with heavy vibes and a spooky overtone.” – 40hz Media

Here’s a freebie mashup of Chromeo’s “Night By Night” with “Space Monkey” from the EP:

Drake Gets His Levels Checked

spl drake forever

Around here, we love our low end spicy.. and SPL always delivers. His sultry blend of hard, oxidized bass serves as an excellent example that dubstep can be ‘heavy’ without always needing a wall of frequency to achieve it. Combining 808 smacks, tongue-whirling wobbles, and a oh-so familiar voice, SPL hit the nail on the head again with his remix of Drake’s “Forever”. Make sure to scope SPL’s recent Heartbreak EP, released on Habit Recordings, a four track release covering dubstep, drumstep, and drum’n bass in the way only SPL can bring it.
