Soul and Wonk

Obviously this isn’t the usual kind of stuff that goes up here, but it’s sick and worth witnessing. This guy Noah has been making a splash this week for turning this played out vomit-inducing electro-top 40 anthem into something goddamn awesome. And yes it’s really him singing.

And just so we’re not straying too far from the bass brick road, here’s some dope difficult-to-categorize tracks by CookieSnap (discovery props to TenBucc2):

Cookie Snap – Where you are by Cookie Snap

Switch Ft. Andrea Martin – I Still Love You – Cookie Snap btlg RMX by Cookie Snap

The Animals vs. The Computers

This simple but amazing remix of House of the Rising Sun by The Animals was made by a person I simply know as PURETUNE. We would love to work with this cat. The instruments used are listed on his Vimeo as follows:

“a. HP Scanjet 3P, Adaptec SCSI card and a computer powered by Ubuntu v9.10 OS as the Vocals. (hey, the scanner is old)
b. Atari 800XL with an EiCO Oscilloscope as the Organ
c. Texas instrument Ti-99/4A with a Tektronix Oscilloscope as the Guitar
d. Hard-drive powered by a PiC16F84A microcontroller as the bass drum and cymbal”

No sampling or audio effects were used to produce this.

Go follow PURETUNE on his FB: https://www.facebook.com/PURETUNE?sk=info

Featuring 9 destructive remixes, including “Killing in the Name Of”, “The Perfect Drug”, “Carry On My Wayward Son”, and “Back in Black”, Samples takes these classics and crushes them into slammin’ bass.

Ben Samples – Killing in the Name Of

Also up for grabs is the second edition of his “Chill Works” if your feeling something a little more downtempo.

Nico Luminous – A Man on a Mission

Nico Luminous

Nico Luminous takes a soulful approach to creating electronic music while fusing melodic progressions, futuristic sound design and organic elements into dirty bass drops. “Sunrize in LA”, his most recent release on Street Ritual records on March 21st 2011, went straight to #1 on Addictech.com. The EP is an elegant downtempo lovestep journey moving swiftly between haunting samples, throbbing sub-bass and 8 bit funk.

Having been performing as an MC/Beatboxer since he was a teenager, Nico also puts those skills to work in his Youtube music production tutorials.

His recent tune “Rock That” is a sexy dubstep track that shows Nico’s versatility in the studio. His intelligent remixes of “Tell Me Your Care” by Roisin Murphy, “Baby Boy” by Beyonce and Sean Paul, and “Imagine” by John Lennon exemplify his ability to make a song his own and still maintain the original character of the piece.
