#TrapTues 14: WOLF-E-WOLF

WOLF-E-WOLF just released his debut EP “Next Level” today with the awesome Gravitas Recordings. Now we’ve been hearing a lot of trash talk lately. The updated Trapstyle genre and its various champions (much like with Dubstep when it got popular) has sadly been attracting unfair abuse and generalization from the hardcore electronic music community ever since Salva’s Mercy remix blew it up. Wolf-E-Wolf is looking to change that, and his 4 track EP makes a pretty strong case.

“Next Level” takes Trap and draws from the deeper UK dubstep and Purple sounds from artists like Joker, Mimosa, Pantyraid, and Lunice, combining bass and melody to create a moody and graceful vibe skittering on top of the heavy, larger than life 808s. This is not your typical Trap. Grab this EP now! If you dig it, don’t hesitate to throw a couple bucks his way.

Check out a BIG mix the Wolf did for our BWOMP! Mix Series awhile back: BWOMP! Mix Series: WOLF-E-WOLF (Mix + Freebies) We even threw in a couple of freebies.

Willy Joy Remixes ASAP Rocky’s Fuckin Problem

WILLY JOY just released his 100 BPM rework of the A$AP Rocky panty dropper, “Fuckin Problem.” This Chicago DJ and producer has been climbing the ranks quickly and getting love from the likes of Diplo, Crookers, Dillon Francis, and BBC Radio 1. Dancefloor sweat is his specialty, yet having had his hands dipped in other genres like House, Moombah, and Juke, there is no cookie-cutter fashion about Willy’s game. Named one of the Next 100 artists to watch by URB Magazine, peep the cracking drums and giant synths in this remix and tell me you don’t agree.

Eye Spy: Blap Deli

So this kid has really been doing his thing. Blap Deli graced BWOMP! Beats back in 2011 with hits that brought a whole new dimension to the bwomp effect.  Now with a redefined sound, Emmett Ross aka Blap Deli (formerly PinkyBear Thuggin), takes us on yet another path for your mind vessel.  Focusing in on the subtle use of samples and synths, funky/jazzy rhythms, and an overall compositional approach, this latest project called Keep Kalm and Draw Elephants will leave crop circles on your brainscape.

As a founder of the Sandbox Collective based out of Sonoma County, CA, Emmett gave me a rundown of what it’s all about round his town.

EYEQ:  So what’s the word on the Sandbox Collective mayne?

Emmett: I started The Sandbox Collective about a year ago; the name was influenced by an interview I heard on KPFA, a local radio station. It was started to breed a new movement of both the hip hop culture and beat scene culture that surrounds me and my peers. Mixing classic/innovative hip hop sounds with the beloved experimental side of beats and instrumentals. I was finding musicians in Sonoma County living out in the woods that we’re cranking out beats like no others, and they we’re just sitting on them. Having them be apart of the collective was a way for us to work together to get our music out to the public. Associating myself into the beat culture I’ve found heavily influential artists such as Teebs, Shlohmo, Flying Lotus, Devonwho, and many more, to be the fire feeders of this movement.

EYEQ:  Nice,  creating community by starting at the root.  What projects have been conceived since Sandbox’s inception?

Emmett:  Aside from the instrumentality of it all, I work with several MC’s and a vocalist from the Sandbox. Making beats for them expands my drive and creative mindset as a producer, for I was raised on J Dilla, Slum Village, Guilty Simpson, and the lessons they give through lyrics and compositions. Some of you may know my brother WDBLK, as well as BRSMSN, Drii, and Subtle T; all are other vocal artists that I collaborate with on a daily basis. Other people I fucks with are Ikeda, Lifted Aquatic, ItsOk, Tony Manfre, and Zach Miller(Canada). We’re striving towards creating innovative art and blessing the public with our creations, whether it be through a live showcase or an incredible headphone/pajama party in your bedroom by yourself.
