A sneak peek for Jay-Z‘s new album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” just premiered during the NBA Finals halftime as part of a Samsung promotion and it’s looking to be amazing. Jay-Z may be bad at retirement, but he’s good at many other things.
So there I was at my desk multi-tasking with the game on and suddenly a sick beat starts playing. Looking up to watch what was on, I see documentary-style footage with none other than Jay-Z vibing and bobbing his head. I think, “Cool. I wonder what this is.” Next thing I know, there was Swizz Beatz in headphones talking to Hove, then shots of Pharrell Williams in the same room, followed by TIMBALAND working at the mixing console (and blowing the speakers out). Dope instrumental after dope instrumental commences. I am justifiably excited (as are they). Unsure of who he was, a little confusion did set in when I saw a long-bearded white dude laid out on the couch. Cut to another angle of the guy: it’s Rick mothaeffin’ Rubin. More beats.
Well played, Jay and Samsung. Well played.
“Magna Carta Holy Grail” comes out July 4, but Samsung plans to give away a million copies to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users for FREE 3 days ahead of the release through an app they’ll receive later this month.
