Jay-Z’s “Magna Carta Holy Grail” Sneak Peek

A sneak peek for Jay-Z‘s new album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” just premiered during the NBA Finals halftime as part of a Samsung promotion and it’s looking to be amazing. Jay-Z may be bad at retirement, but he’s good at many other things.

So there I was at my desk multi-tasking with the game on and suddenly a sick beat starts playing. Looking up to watch what was on, I see documentary-style footage with none other than Jay-Z vibing and bobbing his head. I think, “Cool. I wonder what this is.” Next thing I know, there was Swizz Beatz in headphones talking to Hove, then shots of Pharrell Williams in the same room, followed by TIMBALAND working at the mixing console (and blowing the speakers out). Dope instrumental after dope instrumental commences. I am justifiably excited (as are they). Unsure of who he was, a little confusion did set in when I saw a long-bearded white dude laid out on the couch. Cut to another angle of the guy: it’s Rick mothaeffin’ Rubin. More beats.

Well played, Jay and Samsung. Well played.

Magna Carta Holy Grail” comes out July 4, but Samsung plans to give away a million copies to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users for FREE 3 days ahead of the release through an app they’ll receive later this month.

Habstrakt & Tambour Battant – Sarcasm

Here’s a funky dish served up by Tambour Battant and Habstrakt. This 110 bpm funky electo-breaksy glitch hop was released through Never Say Die Records and is the kind of fun pick me up we would expect from the versatile TB. Grab the download now and while you’re at it, grab Tambour Battant’s “In The Skies EP” on Beatport and Habstrakt’s “Eat Me EP” now. Sweat worthy!

Evolution of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” Through the Decades

So a man by the name of PV Nova from Paris, France did an interesting cover of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and it’s glorious! Technically it’s more like 11 covers, with each one representing how “Get Lucky” might have sounded if made in different decades (starting from the 1920′s all the way up to an imagined 2020′s sound). It sounds gimmicky, but the different takes on the various music eras are spot on and each segment is actually produced exceptionally well. PV shows a great grasp on the overall styles and motifs of pop music through the generations and it’s just entertaining as hell to listen to. Hmmm… do we smell a series brewing?

Mr Carmack & Djemba Djemba on BBC Radio 1

Check out this new mix by Mr Carmack and Djemba Djemba of Team Supreme on Diplo and Friends on BBC Radio 1 and 1xtra. Chock full of really tough and vibey originals and unreleased tracks by forward-thinking bass artists, this mix is fly enough for any setting, whether it be a club, picnic, or drive down PCH (or your nearest scenic route).

Swizzymack Drops BASS

One of Mad Decent’s newest discoveries, Swizzymack, is turning heads and booties with his new EP “BASS,” even getting play on Philly’s Hot 107.9 and festivals and clubs all over by top DJ’s. His high energy and sweat-inducing “Philly Club” sound resembles some sort of a cross breed between hardstyle, trap, and Bmore club… and it cracks. The EP defies categorization as Swizzy shows his production skill and creativity, deftly transitioning from one genre into the next and combining them all into one gelatinous pile of utter bwomp. Keep a watch on this kid.
