LA Confidential: Part II

As a resident of Los Angeles, Stephan Jacobs has quickly made a name for himself within the glitch hop communities, traveling nationwide to dish out the crunkadelic bass to many unsuspecting patrons. His collaborative project with Ruff Hauser, aptly named Kether, has landed Stephan worldwide recognition, including releases with Muti Music (go check out their dope new website!), and most recently, inclusion in the International Bass Biscuits Compilation via Mambo Records. Psyphy basslines layered with intricately laid glitches

LA Confidential: Part I

The Los Angeles glitch-hop/crunk-bass scene is on the up-and-up! Lots of bigness coming out of SoCal these days, from the sea to the sand. With folks like Low End Theory and The Do Lab (and of course, BWOMP!) doing their thing, LA has grown to be a haven for all types of bass addicts and suppliers. And well, we’ve got a fresh dose from some LA local dealers..

As one of the true up-and comers in the glitch-hop scene, Sugarpill spills delicious beats soaked with funky, glitched out synths and twisting sounds. His recent momentum is staggering, blasting off initially with a remix on Mochipet’s Master P On Atari Transformed Vol.2. Since then, he’s put a free bootleg EP (which you can read about here), as well as played shows for The Do Lab, BWOMP, and a slew of others.

Most recently, his Flow Goggles EP was released as an Addictech Exclusive via Daly City Records. It’s a tripped out ride through the wobbleverse, where people speak MIDI and landscapes are created with glitched out symphonies. To get us ready, he released a new collab he did with ChrisB, another LA-er you should keep your eyes peeled for! Scope it below, then head on over to Addictech and pick up Sugarpill’s Flow Goggles!

I Put a SPLAT On You

SPLATINUM is a Seattle-based badman duo comprised of very talented musicians Andrew Luck and Adam Houghton that’s graced our pages before. Just in time for Burning Man, Luck and Houghton crash through the dust clouds with a west coast synth soaked remix of an old classic. This time, Screamin Jay Hawkins gets the splat treatment. This brooding crook of a track will get your heart pumping rivers of dirty, dirty soul. Wait for the synths at 3:06 and get your napkins ready…

Eskmo – Cloudlight

Not even sure what to say about this video. It’s strangely trippy and ethereal, while still being a bit twisted and mildly disturbing. Regardless, very epic! Can’t wait for Eskmo’s release on Ninja Tune, due out in October.
